Location and History

Apache Wells is located in northeast Mesa at Higley and McKellips Road. Robert Hughes developed this community from 1960-1987. Some new homes are now being built in the area. There are 1823 residences, including condos, attached homes, and single-family homes.

Condos are 900-1600 ore or two bedrooms with assigned parking spaces. The attached units are 967 – 2600 sf with one or two bedrooms and two-car garages and Single-family homes from 660 sf to 2600 sf with 1-3 bedrooms, garages,s or carports. There are both manufactured and site-built homes. Both full-time and part-time residents (snowbirds) live in the area. Both retired and those still working. It’s an older project. That means it is more conveniently located, close to most things.

 

Map

The map shows that the Banner Baywood Hospital and medical center is just 3 miles southeast. The Superstition Mall is a major traditional indoor mall. It is  4.5 miles southeast. Access to the 202 Freeway is 2 miles northwest for easy access throughout the valley. The Falcon Field Airport is just west of the neighborhood. It is owned and operated by the City of Mesa. It relieves Phoenix Sky Harbor International and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airports, with 300,000 operations annually; the Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum is 1.5 miles west. The Usery Mountain National Park is 5 miles east. It has hiking and biking trails, campgrounds, and beautiful views of the valley. Sky Harbor International Airport is about 20 minutes west.

 

Community

For the community, the project has extensive amenities, including an activity center: social spaces, ceramics, woodworking, billiards, ping pong, a computer lab, a fitness center, and a community church on site. They have an activity director that plans weekly activities and clubs, holiday parties, potlucks, etc. You will have plenty of opportunities to stay active, socialize and meet your neighbors.

 

Amenities

Many amenities include an outdoor pool, pickleball, softball, picnic areas, a community garden, a doggie park, a gazebo, and lakes.

The Apache Wells Country Club has a semi-private 18-hole golf course. It is 71,600 yards and features 5s and six par 3s. It also has golf practice facilities, including a driving range, practice greens, and a short game area. During September, the rates run from $29-$52.00 for 18 holes with a cart. Junior rates under 17 can golf for $10 walking. After golf, you can enjoy the pro shop,  bar, and grill.

Some nearby activities where you can enjoy our beautiful outdoors include Mesa Swap Meet, an open-air market with free parking and admission. You can make an afternoon out of it with live music, a food court, and shopping. They are open from 7:30-4:00, Friday – Sunday. Another attraction is the Lost Dutchman Ghost Town, where you can watch a gunfight or pan for gold. They have live music and great food at the saloon. Then finish off with an ice cream cone at the ice cream shop.

 

Housing

There are all types of housing in the community, Manufactured Housing, condos, Attached homes, and Single Family Detached.

 

Manufactured Housing

Most are 800 – 1750sf. They range from 1970 to 2017. Right now, you can buy a 2017 home that is 960 sf 1 BR 1 Ba unit on leased land for $95,000 with a monthly lease fee of $633. Homes on lots where you own the land range from $225,000 for an 844 sf 2 BR 2Ba 1970 to a 1741 sf 3 BR unit built in 2006 for $339,000.

 

Condo

There is one condo available for $235,000. It is a 1032 sf unit with 2B, 2 Baths. One recently sold for $184,000, 742 sf 1 BR 1 Ba $184,000 09/2022. And another for $187,500 947 sf 2 BR 2 Bat 1984

 

Attached homes

There are 3 attached units currently available. A 1340 sf unit built in 1995 with 2 BR, 2 Bath for $345,000 to a 1531 sf unit built in 1998 with 2 BR, 2 Ba for $387,900.

 

Single Family Detached 

Most range from $375,000 – $789,000. The range is a 1269 sf home built in 1973 to a 2070 sf house built in 2022.  One specific example for  $575,000 is a 2150 sf, 3 BR 2 Ba constructed in 2016.
