Are you thinking about moving to Chandler and you want someone to give you the bottom line about what it’s really like? In this episode of The Great Escape, we’re going to give you the good, bad, and ugly of living in Chandler, Arizona. We’ll explore the 5 greatest things and 5 not-so-greatest things about life in this city so you can decide if it’s right for you.

Loving Life In Chandler

Just like any place, living in Arizona has its pros and cons. First, we’re going to explore the top five reasons people love living here in Chandler.

The very first and most important reason is employment. Chandler is home to one of the biggest employers, Intel, as well as Microchip Technology, Bashas’, Orbital Sciences, PayPal, eBay, and many more. Second, Chandler offers A+ schools and a plethora of choices. Whether you’re looking for a great public school, charter school, or private school, Chandler has it.

The third reason people love living in Chandler is transportation. Several freeways run through, including the 101, 202, and the I-60. From these, you can easily access the entire valley. It’s also only about 30 minutes from the airport and is close to Gilbert Chandler Community College, Mesa Community College, and ASU.

Fourth, Chandler is rated as the second-best place to raise a family. And finally, the fifth reason is entertainment and shopping. One of the best malls in the area is Chandler Fashion Court, and you can also explore its many restaurants and casinos—like Gila River. Watch the boat and car races at Wild Horse Pass, or enjoy the famous Ostrich Festival. There’s always plenty to do here for every taste.

The Cons

Of course, not everything is perfect. If you’re really serious about moving here to Chandler, you need to know the cons of living here.

Did you know that Chandler’s housing is 27% higher than the national average? Yes, that’s correct. However, there is a large range of housing available from older ranch-style homes to luxurious estates. Despite higher housing costs, the overall cost of living is only 4.8% higher than the national average. Of course, we should keep things in perspective. Chandler is 81% less expensive than the cost of living in San Francisco and 76% less than New York. Groceries are also 4% lower than the national average.

One more thing you need to be prepared for is the traffic. I hate the traffic in Chandler. If you hate the traffic as much as I do, you’re going to need to get used to it. During this last year, it has been a lot better because of COVID. However, as things open up, traffic is starting to come back again. Luckily, many people now have more flexible hours and are working at home. So if you can avoid the rush hours as I do, then traffic is very tolerable and you can get around without too much trouble.
