Are you moving to Arizona and wonder what it would be like living in a 55+ community? In this episode of The Great Escape, I will welcome you to Sun City West, Arizona, and give you an idea of what life is like here. We’ll look at everything from amenities to the cost of housing so you can see if this city is proper for you.

Sun City West Amenities

Sun City West is located northwest of the Phoenix area. It’s a 4-star community with golf, swimming, tennis, and clubs. One of the reasons people like living in this location is because of the variety of things to do.

There’s something in Sun City West for everyone to enjoy. Take advantage of the nine golf courses, four recreation centers, six pools, two dog parks, 30-lane bowling, classes, and clubs. With so many options, you can keep busy every day of the week.

Some of the clubs available include traveling clubs, tours, and RV clubs when you’re feeling adventurous. There are also sports teams, golfing, crafts, and woodshop when you feel like staying in the area. Sun City West is only 25 miles from Lake Pleasant if you love water sports.

The area has so much to offer, including nine spring training clubs. It’s also close to all the sports, including the Phoenix Cardinals, the Phoenix Suns, and the Diamondbacks. There are also art and cultural events in the area and tons of restaurants and shopping.

Housing Options

Sun City West has 16,900 homes and is located 2.5 miles west of Sun City. Most homes were built from 1978 to 1997 with 140 different models. These range from 800 square feet to 4,600 square feet and include both attached and detached units.

What about housing prices? For an 800 square foot one-bedroom, one-bathroom house with an attached patio, expect to pay about $180,000. A 1,400 square foot two-bedroom, two-bathroom attached patio home is approximately $250,000.

A detached home at 1,200 to 1,400 square feet and built in the late 80s and early 90s ranges from about $250,000 to $350,000. For 1,500 to 2,000 square feet, expect to pay between $330,000 to $450,000. Those 2,000+ square feet homes mostly run $390,000 to $450,000. Newer homes built in the 2000s are mostly priced from $550,000 to about $1 million.

What about renting? A two-bedroom, two-bath 1,800 square foot house currently costs $1,700 to $2,000 [er month. A two-bedroom, two-bathroom 1,200 to 1,600 square foot house runs between $1,500 to $1,600 a month.
