What are the safest cities in Arizona 2019?
So let’s talk about the safest neighborhoods in Arizona. Where are these cities located? The four cities that top the list are Oro Valley, Buckeye, Florence, and Gilbert.
Our first safest town, Oro Valley. Oro Valley is a suburb of Tucson that was incorporated in 1974. It is located 6 miles north of Tucson and 110 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix. It is surrounded by the Santa Catalina Mountains, golf courses and gorgeous hotels. It is dubbed as the “upscale Tech Mecca of southern Arizona with over 10 large tech firms. The median household income is nearly 50% higher than the U.S. Median. The town is also known for hosting many golf tournaments. Now we will travel west of the Phoenix Metropolitan area.
Our 2nd safest city in Buckeye. Buckeye is located 30 miles west of Phoenix, about a 40-minute drive during low traffic hours. The town was originally named Sidney. In 1910 it was renamed Buckeye due to the importance of the Buckeye Canal. It was one of the fastest-growing cities in America on a percentage basis. Buckeye is home to 30 master-planned communities. It enjoys several national parks in the vicinity. Shopping is available at Sundance Towne Center. In November 2017 it was announced that Bill Gates purchased 24,800 acres to build a Smart City called Belmont. It will be located between Buckeye and Tonopah. It will eventually house 290,000 people in about 80,000 residential units and will be about the size of Tempe Arizona. It will include new manufacturing technologies, data centers, autonomous vehicles, and autonomous logistics hubs.
Our next town is Florence. We will be traveling to the southeast of the valley for the 3rd safest city in Arizona in 2019. Florence is 61 miles southeast of Phoenix in Pinal County. It is the county seat of Pinal county. It is one of the oldest towns with over 25 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Prior to the establishment of the town, Gila River served as a border between the United States and Mexico. Then in 1853, the Gadsden Purchase extended the American Territory well south of the Gila River. In 1875 silver was discovered in the famous Silver King Mine. In 1880 a canal was built to divert water to irrigation. The 2nd Anthem development was built in Florence by Pulte Homes and Del Webb. It is six miles northwest of downtown. The two hospitals and prisons have been large employers in the area. One hospital closed in June 2018. Our governor announced on January 14th that the state prison will now be closing. So, the makeup of the town will be changing over the next few years.
And now to our 4th safest city Gilbert Arizona. Now we are going to travel back into town to Gilbert Arizona. Not only is Gilbert the 4th safest city or town in Arizona, but it also fluctuates over the last 5 years between the 1 and 2 position as the safest city or town in the United States that has a population over 100,000. Gilbert It was known as the Hay Shipping Capital of the World. It is the 6th largest town in Arizona. It consistently is in the top 10 as one of the best places to live. And for good reason. It has low unemployment and has the top schools. Gilbert is in the southeast valley. It has some of the best parks in Arizona for both humans and dogs. It has Cosmos Dog Park, Freestone Park (an 88- acre park with 2 lakes, softball fields, soccer fields, skate park, railroad, amusement rides, batting cages and so much more). The Riparian Preserve was created in 1999 to combine water resources and wildlife habitat. It provides opportunities for fishing, camping, education, and an observatory. Over the last 10 years, Gilbert has had a facelift. It now has a mixture of old and new. Restaurants and entertainment have moved into the downtown area including Postino, Barrio Queen, Whisky Row, and many others, making it the new “hot area”. Shopping is available at the outdoor mall of SanTan Village. So, there you have the list of the 4 safest cities in Arizona 2019. So where are the least-safest cities in Arizona? I think some will surprise you: Globe, Tolleson, Page, Tucson, and Tempe.
